Cancun, Q.R. — The latest U.S. snow storm has affected hundreds of American flights into and out of Cancun International. After a snowfall of around nine inches (23 cm) fell in the northeast between Friday and Saturday, thousands of flights across the U.S. were either cancelled or delayed.
According to FlightAware, nearly 7,000 flights were affected by the snowfall as of Friday afternoon. Of those, 1,500 had been canceled while 5,400 were delayed. The flight tracking website reported the most affected airports served the areas of New York, Philadelphia and Detroit.
The winter snowstorm also affected flights in and out of Toronto, Canada. On Saturday morning, FlightAware had reported 2,704 delayed flights in and out of the U.S. and 663 cancelled.
A reported 204 delays and seven cancellations were already recorded at Cancun International by Saturday morning. Of those, 141 of those delays and all seven cancellations were U.S. flights into the Mexican Caribbean airport.

Airlines JetBlue, Delta, United, American and VivaAerobus were the hardest hit serving the Cancun region. According to the latest available figures, JetBlue has already had four cancellations and additional delays into Cancun International.
Delta registered two cancellations and 24 delays into Cancun, while United reported one cancellation and 27 delays into the Mexican Caribbean airport capital.
While American Airlines has, so far, been able to avoid cancellations, they have reported 37 delays at Cancun. Other airlines landing at Cancun have also been affected with spillover delays due to the winter storm.

The National Weather Service issued a weather storm warning Friday and into Saturday afternoon for New York and southern Connecticut, with similar weather warnings for New Jersey.
