Inspectors shut down PDC real estate project after allegations of paid-for permits

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen inspectors have suspended a real estate project after finding irregularities. The Monarca 28 project was suspended by order of the Urban Development Department of Solidaridad Thursday.

The real estate project was suspended after officials detected a series of irregularities in the processing of its construction license. At least one of the irregularities includes allegations of the collection of cash for the approval of the permits.

The six-story building project was suspended after owner Felipe Grillosca reported two former directors for demanding 800,000 in cash to process his permits. The two people named were city workers in the last administration.

“The previous administration, with all the corruption that existed, forced me to pay cash to obtain a license that, in the end, was poorly done. Raúl Negrete and Gabriel Ronquillo took advantage of my inexperience as a builder to grant me a permit full of irregularities which is now costing me the suspension of my project and more than 200 people out of work,” he said.

Felipe Grillosca said he paid 800,000 for permits that turned out to be fake.

According to his testimony, the money was delivered at a meeting in Plaza Las Américas near the construction site of the project in August of this year, a month before the end of the last administration. He claims to have video evidence to support his statements.

The project permit was issued by Raúl Negrete in February of this year.

Grillosca said that his licenses turned out to be fake. He is demanding justice and sanctions against those responsible for the corruption. In response to the allegations, the current municipal administration has initiated an exhaustive review of the documents related to the project.
