Cancun, Q.R. — Six people were arrested in Cancun over the weekend for dumping garbage in public spaces. Two of the six taken into police custody were caught leaving kilos of bagged garbage in a signed “No dumping” area.

The arrests were made in response to the permanent operations carried out by the Green Units for Comprehensive Solid Waste Solutions (Siresol). The Green Units work in coordination with the Municipal Secretariat for Citizen Security and Transit, who arrested six citizens who were caught throwing household garbage on public roads.
On Friday three arrests were made on Arco Norte Avenue in Supermanzana 252, where two citizens got out of a Ford truck to throw cardboard and vitafilm in a green area, without caring about the environment.
That same day on Tankah Street in Supermanzana 26, a 34-year-old man was caught with a green bag containing approximately 1 kilogram of household garbage, leaving it in front of a banner indicating that it is prohibited to throw garbage in public places.
At the same location, but at 9:00 p.m., Siresol personnel noticed that a woman from Cancun left an orange bag with approximately 4 kilograms of household garbage in a prohibited place.
The green patrols intensified their patrols, resulting in two more arrests on Saturday, in the same Supermanzana, catching a 58-year-old man in flagrante delicto who left several bags of household garbage weighing approximately 150 kilograms from restaurants adjacent to Mercado 28, which were in front of a banner that prohibits throwing waste on public roads.

Later that night on the same street, another person was seen by the green units leaving a bag of approximately 10 kilograms of garbage at the same point.
On Sunday, a sixth citizen was arrested for throwing approximately 7 kilos of household garbage away in the Villas del Mar 3 subdivision.
In all six arrests, the corresponding procedures were carried out to bring the suspects before a civic judge, but not before informing them of the administrative offense corresponding to Article 61 of the Civic Justice Regulations for the Municipality of Benito Juárez.
It is important to emphasize that the prevention and surveillance tours carried out in the city are permanent to detect, report and channel clandestine garbage dumps.
