Governor says Cancun, Riviera Maya remains a safe and secure destination for visitors

Cancun, Q.R. — The government of Quintana Roo says, despite recent events, the state remains a safe and secure destination for visitors. In a briefing, governor Carlos Joaquin said that in response to the December 7 incident at Playa Langosta in the Cancun Hotel Zone, a full investigation has been launched.

Joaquin explained that on December 7, shots were fired into the air by a group on jet skis. He stressed that no one was injured during the isolated incident and the destination remains open to visitors.

He explained that authorities of the Coordination Group for Quintana Roo’s Peace and Security, a special police unit, intervened in a timely manner to avoid further consequences.

The government of Quintana Roo, headed by Governor Carlos Joaquin, also announced the launch of its special security program in conjunction with the start of the winter holidays, to provide additional security.

This is in addition to the permanent security and protection strategy that has always been in place to provide safety and security for all visitors.

On December 8, the U.S. Department of State updated its Travel Advisory for Mexico nationwide amid the COVID 19 pandemic. In this case, he says Quintana Roo remains a safe destination to visit, adding that there are no travel restrictions for international visitors.

He says the Quintana Roo government and its state Police Department will continue to work hand-in-hand with federal and local agencies, as well as the domestic and foreign private sector, to keep order and peace, guaranteeing a safe environment for residents and visitors.
