Witnesses subdue driver of truck that left motorcyclist dead on Cancun road

Cancun, Q.R. — A motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after being involved in a accident with a water truck. The accident happened at the intersection of Chac Mool Avenue and Miguel Hidalgo Avenue in Cancun.

According to initial reports, the truck driver allegedly ran a red light causing the fatal collision.

Police were notified of the accident around 6:00 p.m. when other motorists called emergency services. They reported that they motorcyclist was traveling on Miguel Hidalgo Avenue with a green light when the water truck allegedly ran a red light.

The two vehicles collided. The motorcyclist was thrown to the pavement where the heavy vehicle ran over him.

Accident witnesses said the truck driver continued to travel another city block before they caught up with him and blocked his way. Believing he was trying to escape, he was forced out of his vehicle and held for police.

Responding officers arrested the truck driver. The driver of the motorcycle, reported to be around 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
