Cancun, Q.R. — Personnel from Cancun’s ecology department removed a large adult crocodile from a residential area. On Monday, authorities were called to an area near Isla Dorada where a two meter croc was spotted.
According to Cancun City Hall, several city departments participated in the capture and removal of the large reptile. City Hall said the reptile turned out to be an American crocodile that measured approximately two meters in length.
Cancun firemen worked with city environmental personnel to remove the crocodile from the area. It was captured, bound and relocated without incident.
In a brief note, Cancun City Hall said “We responded to a citizen report regarding an American crocodile found in the Cancún Hotel Zoneb near kilometer marker 12.5, in the vicinity of Isla Dorada.
“Working in coordination with the General Directorate of Ecology, the Fire Department, and PROFEPA, we carried out the necessary operations to safely rescue the animal which measured approximately two meters in length and had its mouth and limbs bound.
“It was subsequently transported to a PROFEPA-authorized facility for a veterinary medical assessment to determine its health status.
“We reiterate the importance of reporting the presence of wildlife to the authorities and avoiding any actions that could put people or animals at risk,” they said.
