Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Government officials have begun the task of dismantling the Playa del Carmen building once used to sell real estate. State officials were at the building Friday removing everything inside.
Before they finished, the lettering that once spelled DeRiMaya along with the company’s logo was also removed.
The company Desarrolladora de la Riviera Maya (DeRiMaya) and several of its primary employees are facing more than 250 million pesos in real estate fraud charges. The now-defunct real estate company was a commercial company, Desarrollo de la Riviera Maya, SA de CV (DeRiMaya) as a working partner with the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development for the sale of land in Playa del Carmen.
The joint partnership was created in 2017. Earlier this year, the building was seized by the the FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado) after an ongoing investigation revealed irregularities.
At least 4,000 people in the municipality of Soldaridad were affected.
On Friday, “the formal delivery of all historical documentation of DeRiMaya was carried out through the Legal Counsel, the Comptroller’s Office and the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development,” the government of Quintana Roo reported in a statement.
Governor Mara Lezama said the state has initiated the corresponding actions to regain control of the assets and administration of the Riviera Maya Development Company (DeRiMaya).
“This measure was taken after DeRiMaya withdrew from an Amparo suit against the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) related to the reincorporation of 1,200 hectares located in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Colony in Solidaridad.
“The decision to proceed with the recovery of control of DeRiMaya responds to the need to correct the improper administration that had occurred around these lands.
“In a first step towards regularization, on July 19 of this year, the formal delivery of all historical documentation of DeRiMaya to the Government of the State of Quintana Roo was made.
“The documents were delivered through the Legal Department, the Comptroller’s Office and the Secretariat for Sustainable Urban Territorial Development.
“This action is one of the first measures of the Committee for the Regularization of the Luis Donaldo Colosio Colony as part of the commitment of the Federation and the State Government to the regularization of land for the well-being and tranquility of 4,000 families in Solidaridad.”
