Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum says the Maya Train freight line will be inaugurated at the end of 2026. “It is working, there are no delays in anything that was planned,” she said Friday. According to Sheinbaum, the K Line of the Interoceanic Train, which runs from Ixtepec, Oaxaca to Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, will be launched in mid-2026.
Sheinbaum highlighted that the strategic projects of the Government of Mexico are profitable and contribute to national development. For Quintana Roo, she highlighted both the Maya Train and the Tulum International Airport.
“Examples of this are the Maya Train, which to date has transported more than one million passengers and the Tulum International Airport, which has transported more than 2 million people,” she said.
She also mentioned other government projects that include the Mundo Maya Hotels and their parks which have 10 tourist packages available at affordable prices this summer, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which has transported 13.5 million passengers and maintains a 90.14 percent passenger satisfaction rate and the Mexicana airline, which has a 93 percent passenger satisfaction rate and has transported 600,000 people to date.

“Everything is supported by business models and it’s working. In addition to the professionalism of those who run these companies, in addition to their love for their country, their discipline, their professionalism, they are reviewing every month that the goals we have set are being met.
“It works and it will work even better, and its profitability in the short term is guaranteed by Mexicana de Aviación, the Maya Train, all the hotels, and the parks. It’s guaranteed and based on a plan. These are not afterthoughts, otherwise, southeastern Mexico would have been forgotten,” she stated during the morning press conference.

She pointed out that the Maya Train is a transport system that is working, that is not experiencing delays and that will generate profits with the arrival of the entire fleet of trains, as well as with the construction of its cargo line.
She said that cargo line will be inaugurated at the end of 2026, the same year in which the K Line of the Interoceanic Train will also be launched.

Óscar David Lozano, the General Director of Tren Maya, highlighted that its 34 stations are already in operation and by July 15, 2025, 1,359,317 passengers have been transported, presenting a monthly growth of 19 percent.
The commander of the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, announced that the first phase of the Maya Train freight line will be completed in a year and a half.

This phase consists of the intermodal terminals in Palenque, Progreso, Poxilá and Cancun. The work has created approximately 5,000 jobs and more than 4,000 are currently underway. Additionally, 66.7 kilometers of railway branches are being built and rehabilitated simultaneously.
