Feds arrest traffickers moving 270 kilos of cocaine bound for flight inside Mexico City International

Mexico City, Mexico — Four people were arrested and 270 kilos of cocaine seized bound for a flight to Tijuana. Authorities say they located 271 wrapped packages of cocaine heading for Baja California on a weekend flight.

On Monday, the Secretariat of the Navy and the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) reported on the arrests of four people involved in drug trafficking at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).

The November 21 operation was led by members of the Navy and with support from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The detainees, they say, are part of a known network that smuggled packages of drugs on commercial flights bound for Tijuana, Baja California.

“As a result of inter-institutional coordination, elements of the Secretariat of the Navy, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), seized 271 packages weighing approximately 270 kilograms of cocaine.

“The seizure comes after field and office work that uncovered evidence of a drug trafficking network that brought packages into the country on commercial flights to Tijuana, Baja California,” authorities said.

The packages made it onto the flights without performing the required X-ray inspection or the necessary procedures for their shipment, the FGR explained.

“As a result of these actions, on November 21, personnel from the Naval Airport Protection Unit arrested four people at Terminal 2 of the AICM with various packages, in which the alleged drugs were located,” the FGR reported.

Authorities say the seized narcotics represents an estimated economic impact of 92,048,498 in national currency on organized crime.
