Mexico City, Mexico — Cofepris says they have detected historic collusion that favored the monopoly of authorized third parties in Mexico’s health system.
The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) reports that it has detected a collusion scheme within the institution, which favored at least one company with less strict evaluations, while others were imposed excessive and unnecessary requirements.
Cofepris (Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios) says they have carried out random inspections of the processes of determination, resolutions and files issued by administrative units with the aim of eradicating acts of corruption that directly or indirectly harm the health of the population.
As a result of these actions, files and resolutions related to authorized third parties assisting in health control, such as testing laboratories and drug interchangeability testing laboratories, were reviewed.
During the analysis, discrepancies were found in the evaluation criteria and interpretation of the required requirements. In addition, at least one company was found to have benefited from less rigorous assessments, while others faced unjustified overregulation.
Given this situation, Cofepris will immediately correct the resolutions related to auxiliary companies in health control and will take measures to resolve the problems that affected other authorized third parties.
To combat corruption, actions such as direct and transparent communication with industry and productive sectors were implemented including the National Strategy for Good Government in conjunction with the Secretariat of Public Function (SFP).
As a national security institution, Cofepris remains committed to the task of eradicating acts of corruption and continues to file complaints with the relevant authorities.
This federal commission is consolidated as an institution formed by a team of top-level professionals who, with commitment and honesty, work for the health of the people of Mexico under the motto: “The fight against corruption saves lives.”
