Merida, Yucatan — The state of Yucatan has increased its air connection with the  reactivation of its Tijuana-Merida route. The reactivated route will begin June 1, 2026 providing a direct connection between the two cities.

“The reactivation adds a new strategic connection with the northwest of the country,” reported Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena.

Yucatan continues to consolidate itself as one of the best-connected destinations in Mexico with the announcement of the reactivation of the Volaris Tijuana-Mérida air route.

The route will being operations on June 1, with four weekly flights.

As of June 1, 2026 travelers can once again enjoy the direct Merida-Tijuana route.

This air link will increase the state’s national connectivity by adding a new option to connect the southeast with the northwest of the country. With this, Yucatan will have 13 active national routes, expanding opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange.

According to the schedule, flights will depart from Tijuana at 8:00 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flights will depart from Merida at 2:00 p.m. on the same days of the week.

Each flight will have an average capacity of 174 seats, allowing for the transport of a greater number of passengers between the two regions.

The reactivation of this route represents a significant step forward in the strategy to strengthen air connectivity in Yucatan, aligned with the vision of the administration led by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena.

Darío Flota Ocampo, the Secretary of Tourism Development, indicated that this connection seeks to incentivize tourist flow between the northwest and southeast of the country, facilitating access to both the beach attractions and the vast cultural wealth of the state.

Ocampo explained that the return of this air route is the result of coordinated work between the public sector, the airline and Grupo ASUR, the concessionaire of the Mérida International Airport, which is currently the eighth busiest airport in Mexico in terms of passenger traffic.

Jorge García Rojas, the Director of Market Development, Distribution, and Cargo at Volaris said “the reactivation of the Tijuana-Merida route is part of Volaris’ commitment to strengthening air connectivity in Mexico and responds to growing market demand.

“This strategic connection strengthens the arrival of visitors to Merida, expanding travel options for our customers and facilitating passenger flow from the northwest of the country.
