Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Authorities in Quintana Roo and Yucatan tracked down and captured a wanted criminal. The man, 47-year-old César L.P., a native of Cozumel, was arrested in Playa del Carmen Friday.

The man, who is alleged to be a criminal group leader, was wanted for a variety of crimes in Valladolid, Yucatan. Over the weekend, the SSP of Yucatan announced his capture.

They identified César L.P. by known aliases that include “El Chicharra” and “El Dos”, the latter nickname he uses for the position he occupies in a criminal group linked to drug dealing, robbery with violence Valladolid.

“The capture of this 47-year-old man from Cozumel is the result of joint operations and the search of seven properties including a bar, recently carried out in Valladolid by the State Investigation Police (PEI) of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the Army, the Navy and the National Guard, with the collaboration of their counterparts in Quintana Roo,” the SSP of Yucatan said in a news release.

“Simultaneously, operations were implemented in other parts of Quintana Roo, in Mexico City and other entities,” they added.

“The information gathered was thanks to citizen complaints and evidence obtained in the searches, as well as the analysis of data from the video surveillance and reader arches that allowed the investigating agents and prosecutors to locate “El Dos” and execute the arrest warrant,” they explained.

“Among the crimes he is charged with is the assault in a private home in the Cipreses neighborhood in Valladolid, on the 10th of this month. The subject and two others, with firearms, dressed in black clothing and badges hanging around their necks that simulated being police, broke into that property, threatened and tied the hands of a couple and stole electronic devices, gold jewelry, a motorcycle, clothing and cash.

“They fled in a compact car with overlapping license plates. With the investigations, it was learned that the plates were from another vehicle which was found abandoned in the Esmeralda neighborhood which was seized,” they said.
