Mexico City, Mexico — A Costa Rican national has been returned to her country by Mexico. The female fugitive was extradited Thursday to serve her eight-year sentence for drug trafficking.
Leidy “M” was handed over to country officials in compliance with the Extradition Treaty signed between Mexico and the Republic of Costa Rica.
“The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) extradited a person of Costa Rican nationality required by the Criminal Court of the First Judicial Circuit of San José, Costa Rica, to serve an eight-year prison sentence imposed on her for the crime of transporting drugs for trafficking,” they reported.
“In August 2009, Leidy “M” was arrested in San José, along with other people aboard a vehicle in which they were transporting packages wrapped in plastic containing marijuana.
“For this reason, an arrest warrant was served on her in July of this year in Atizapán, State of Mexico, and subsequently, the Government of Mexico granted the extradition of the wanted person to the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica.
“The fugitive was handed over at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to the Costa Rican agents for her transfer back to that country,” the FGR reported.
