Riviera Maya, Q.R.- UPDATED January 27: The Government of Quintana Roo has reported an error in their January 23 press release and have since issued an update.
“Within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2025, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa met with Mark Hoplamaizan, President of Grupo Hyatt and with Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero and President of the joint venture between both companies, who stated that the joint venture they form wants to continue growing in hotel rooms in the state.
“Governor Mara Lezama welcomed this firm intention that strengthens the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean. The increased commitment of such important hotel companies will contribute to continue positioning Quintana Roo as an undisputed leader in tourism at an international level.
“During the meeting, Governor Mara Lezama stressed that this type of meeting with such prominent players in the hotel sector is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen international relations and attract investment that will boost economic growth and prosperity in the state.
“This good relationship with two of the most important hotel chains in the world reinforces the state government’s commitment to continue promoting the growth of Quintana Roo in a sustainable manner, favoring a tourist development that benefits the entire population, both economically and socially,” the CGC reported in an updated press release.
On Thursday, Lezama met with Mark Hoplamaizan, President of Grupo Hyatt and Encarna Piñero, Executive Vice President and CEO of Grupo Piñero.
She says during their meeting, they reached a historic agreement for new hotel rooms in the state. The Thursday meeting was held in Madrid during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR).
Lezama said the strategic alliance strengthens the destinations of the Mexican Caribbean and that this important tourism infrastructure project represents an increase of up to 30 percent in reservations for the destination, positioning Quintana Roo as an undisputed leader in tourism at an international level.
During the meeting, Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that the agreement is the result of the state government’s efforts to strengthen international relations and attract investment that will boost economic growth and prosperity in the state.

Lezama did not provide specifics on where the hotels will be built or when construction will start.
Earlier this Spanish investors in Madrid announced five new hotels this year for Quintana Roo. The hotels will add another 2,500 rooms to the state’s current inventory.
