Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Municipal authorities have put a stop on the construction of a new central real estate project. The project, which is set to be 114 studio apartments, has been put on hold until the next administration.
Jaqueline Alcocer Dzib, Councilor and President of the Solidaridad Urban Development Commission, said it will be the responsibility of the next administration to decide the future of the project which is considered to be over height.
She says the project was given the green light by a former city employee. Since the project does not meet city regulations and there is a new incoming administration, they will have to determine the fate of the apartment building.
She says the documents accompanying the real estate project have already been submitted to the new administration so they understand the reasons for the current building suspension.
The barely-started apartment building is being constructed on the former CAPA site on 10th Ave and 6th Street North in central Playa del Carmen. The 114 studio apartments are set for construction in a 6-floor building, a height that does not comply with the Urban Development Plan (PDU) of Solidaridad.
Aside from being over height, there have been concerns about the lack of sufficient infrastructure to provide water, sewage and electricity services to new projects.
