Costa Maya, Q.R. — The Secretary of the State says the CFE has agreed to provide a calendar of scheduled maintenance to replace damaged transformers. State Secretary Cristina Torres said that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will provide the maintenance schedule to the government in coming days.
Torres said that the maintenance calendar will be for the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and part of Bacalar.
She said the request was made to help reduce public frustration in the ongoing blackouts being experienced around the state, particularly in the south. Scheduled power cuts to replace burned out transformers will also eliminate highway roadblocks, which have become frequent.
Over two dozen communities in the south of Quintana Roo have protested their ongoing power outages on a near weekly-basis with roadblocks. Some of the protestors are also angry that the power cuts disables their mobile services, which renders them unable to make a CFE failure report.
“We have talked with residents of the affected communities so that they allow the CFE personnel to carry out the work required, and in any case, make the reports so that the CFE can attend to them,” she explained.
Torrres said that she has held meetings with the CFE superintendent who agreed to review the areas where power outages have been reported then provide the State Government with a maintenance schedule.
The maintenance, she explained, will differ by municipality since some of the power problems are due to transformers, while other areas are experiencing power outages due to burst cables from weather conditions.
