Cancun, Q.R. — On Friday, the state of Quintana Roo broke its previous record for most flights in a day. Figures show 766 air operations on December 19 between the state’s four main international airports.
On Saturday, Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama confirmed the figures, announcing them as a historic record of air operations in a single day.
“Today Quintana Roo is breaking a historic record in air connectivity. More than 766 operations in a single day across the state’s four airports, Cancun, Tulum, Cozumel, and Chetumal, an unprecedented figure,” she said.
Governor Lezama commented that this new record reflects the confidence of the airlines and the preference of millions of visitors who choose the Mexican Caribbean as the leading tourist destination in Mexico.

With this, it continues to be one of the leading destinations in the world. “The high demand for air travel confirms the success of tourism diversification across the state’s destinations,” she said.
Mara Lezama also reported that the outlook for 2026 is highly positive with projections of at least 17 new air routes, operated by 11 airlines, between December 2025 and June 2026.
“This will allow us to diversify markets, strengthen the arrival of visitors and generate greater shared prosperity for our people,” she said.
Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto highlighted that under the leadership of Governor Mara Lezama, the state has consolidated sustained growth in the tourism sector and reinforced the strategic role of its airport infrastructure for regional economic development.
These new connections, he explained, will strengthen the arrival of visitors, diversify source markets and expand economic growth opportunities for Quintana Roo families, consolidating Quintana Roo as one of the main tourist destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean.
