Cancun, Q.R. — Federal inspectors and state environmental offices have closed an illegal mega real estate project. The sale of land for the upcoming residential ViaMarina Cancun has been shut down.

According to Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, the project is being sold by Grupo Colorines and consists of 10 developments under the umbrella of ViaMarina in the Bosques of Cancun. She says after an inspection in response to a citizen complaint, the city found the project to be illegal.
The Wednesday closure of the mega-development was lead by City Council Secretary General Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández. He says closure seals were placed on 10 projects that were intended to be located in an area of high environmental conservation, an area where basic services and urban infrastructure cannot be guaranteed.
In addition to being located in an area unsuitable for urbanization, the developments lacked municipal, state and federal Urban Development permits, licenses and authorizations.

Gutiérrez Fernández emphasized that the closure on directions of the mayor, reflects the administration’s willingness and commitment to protecting the assets of Cancun families, ensuring that no one is deceived by illegal projects, and reaffirming the importance of orderly and sustainable urban growth.
These closures are part of an ongoing program led by the Benito Juárez City Council to halt irregular projects that endanger the environment and affect the balanced development of Cancún.

The Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), the Attorney General’s Office for Environmental Protection (PPA), the Municipal Secretariat of Ecology and Urban Development, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic and Civil Protection participated in the operation.
Lots from 300 square meters are currently being sold online. According to their website, Grupo Colorines Real Estate Hub also has an office in Merida, Yucatan and offers their own financing.
