Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Mayor Lili Campos says the city is in the analysis stage regarding the possibility of a new public transport company. In her weekly city council update, Campos explained that they are still evaluating the municipality’s transportation options.
She said that meetings have been held with both the Tucsa public transport permit holder and the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union. The Tucsa company, who operates the city’s buses, have been asked to improve them.
The Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union, who operate the combis that run around Playa del Carmen, said they are in the process of testing electric vehicles. Campos said the union is expecting to put four electric cars on city streets in coming weeks.
If the tests are successful, the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Drivers Union could start modernizing their fleet.
Campos added that the city council has not ruled out the possibility of issuing a tender for a new company to provide the public transport services of Playa del Carmen. She said that she recently visited with Yucatan Governor Mauricio Vila, who showed her the modern buses that operate in that state.
