Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun authorities executed a search warrant Saturday, resulting in the closure of a real estate development. The State Attorney General’s Office reported that through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, they executed a search warrant on a property on the border of the Alfredo V. Bonfil.

The site was searched, they said, for possible crimes against the environment and urban development, by a real estate developer.
During the investigation, which also involved members of the Navy and National Guard, authorities confirmed that the property had access roads and paths, which had been filled and compacted with stone material.
They also found organic waste such as branches, logs and grass from the clearing, which lead to evident environmental deterioration in the area with serious repercussions for the flora, fauna, soil and ecosystems.

An area of approximately 30,000 square meters was found cleared illegally.
“On the property in question, 477 residential lots ranging in size from 814 to 2,000 square meters was being developed in three phases without the corresponding licenses from the urban development and environmental authorities,” the State Attorney General reported.

“Following the execution of the search warrant, the participating officers documented evidence of the damage observed, including it in the corresponding investigation file. They then proceeded to place the security seals on the property, which is now under the protection of state authorities.
