Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Secretary of Civil Protection of Playa del Carmen says they have detected three active forest fires in the west part of the city. The three forest fires were found burning near two residential areas Saturday morning.

According to Civil Protection and Firefighters head Darvin Covarrubias, the fires were located near Cristo Rey and Los Pardos. The three fires were discovered burning Saturday morning during a flyover.
Covarrubias says brigades are already on the ground fighting flames to prevent the fires from spreading to the nearby residential areas.

“As part of the actions taken during the wildfire season, personnel from the Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Fire Department, under the command of Secretary Darwin Covarrubias, conducted an overflight during which they detected three active fires in the forest area west of the city, near the Cristo Rey and Los Prados neighborhoods.

“Our fire brigades and operational personnel are already at the hot spots fighting the flames to prevent them from spreading. With the support of the municipal Citizen Security Department helicopter, we are monitoring the fires to determine fighting strategies,” the Secretary of Civil Protection reported Saturday.
