Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen police escorted a disorientated deer along a section of Fifth Avenue Saturday. The wild animal was captured on city surveillance cameras casually walking along the busy pedestrian walkway late Saturday morning.

Police walked along side the white-tailed deer, escorting it until environmental authorities arrived. City police notified Civil Protection and local environmental personnel about the wandering animal after it was spotted around 11:00 a.m. near 2nd Street.
The Secretariat of Sustainable Environment reported the animal was found in perfect condition. It was was captured and relocated outside the city.
“A wild surprise on 5th Avenue! The Tourist Police activated protocols, notifying Civil Protection and the Environmental authorities for assessment and safe return to its natural habitat. Caring for our wildlife is also part of Serve and Protect,” the SSC said.

“With the support of Civil Protection, the Fire Department of Playa del Carmen and the Playa del Carmen SSC, we responded to a wildlife report of a white-tailed deer on a public road.

“The specimen was in perfect physical condition, and in coordination with PROFEPA, it was successfully relocated. Remember that your report helps us save lives. In the event of a wildlife emergency, please do not hesitate to call 911,” Secretaría de Medio Ambiente Sustentable y Cambio Climático y Zofemat reported in a brief statement.

The deer is believed to have wandered into the city center from the nearby forest of Playacar in search of food and water.
