Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities have made another arrest in what has been called the Cancun mafia taxi union murders. Three people were killed in October 2024 as inside jobs by Cancun union members.

Two taxi drivers and one union collaborator were found tortured and shot to death within the same month. A search of a Cancun union building lead police to those involved.
To date, the FGE says nine people have been arrested in relation to the three murders. On Monday during a press conference, the FGE announced the arrest of a ninth person. Investigative police officers executed an arrest warrant against 34 year old Luis Alexander, alias “El Conejo”, a Cancun taxi driver “for his probable involvement in the murder of José Luis, also a member of the union.”
He is facing charges of aggravated homicide.
“Investigations established that the victim was deprived of his liberty by four individuals upon arriving at his home in SM 59. He was placed in their vehicle marked as a taxi.
“His body was found in a green area on the Cancún-Mérida federal highway with at least 20 gunshot wounds and clear signs of torture,” authorities detailed.

The FGE said Luis Alexander played a “key role” on the day of the crime, monitoring the victim’s movements and alerting others when he left the premises. He is also accused of warning them of the presence of authorities.

This latest arrest adds to others who are currently facing charges. Some of them have been identified by authorities as Salomón “N,” alias “Mafer,” the former interim leader of the union and his associates Oscar Antonio, Juan Manuel, and José Rosendo.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, all of the defendants were part of a criminal cell operating within the union that planned and carried out the murder of José Luis Corral as part of an internal struggle for control of the union.

In November, FGE head Raciel López Salazar revealed that murder victim José Luis Corral was killed due to his stance against the union’s link with drug trafficking.
