Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua — An American woman remains in Mexican jail after attempting to cross the border with magazines and live rounds. The unnamed woman was arrested from a bus at the Córdova-Américas International Bridge Friday.

While crossing the U.S. border into Mexico, a public transport bus was given a green light, exempt from a customs check. However, the luggage was still x-ray scanned which is when custom officers noticed “military equipment”.
Hidden inside pillowcases and socks, officers located 170 magazines and 600 live rounds hidden between three suitcases. The woman was arrested by National Guard from the international crossing.
In a statement, authorities reported “in compliance with the Mexican Government’s National Security Strategy, members of the National Guard detained a woman of American origin in Chihuahua who was attempting to enter Mexican territory with military equipment hidden in pillowcases and socks.
“National Guardsmen, in coordination with personnel from Mexico’s National Customs Agency, were conducting preventive and surveillance inspections at the Córdova-Américas International Bridge in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua when they spotted a tourist bus that received a green traffic light, meaning it was exempt from customs inspection.

“As a precaution, the luggage was subjected to an X-ray inspection which revealed anomalies in three suitcases. During a manual inspection, they found 170 magazines and 600 live rounds of ammunition of various calibers hidden inside pillowcases and socks, leading to the arrest of the owner.”
