Cancun, Q.R. — The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) head, Jorge Nuño Lara, toured three of Cancun’s infrastructure projects over the weekend.
The head of the SICT, Jorge Nuño Lara, accompanied by the Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Jesús Felipe Verdugo López, and the General Director of Highways, Salvador Fernández Ayala, supervised three of Cancun’s ongoing megaprojects.
Authorities reported touring the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, the Cancun Airport-Maya Train Station connection and Chac Mool Avenue, the latter two of which are expected to be completed this year.
In a statement, the SICT says the projects fulfill the objective of expanding, maintaining and building modern land and air connectivity routes that give access to goods and services.
The Cancun Airport-Maya Train Station Connection has an investment of 170 million pesos (mdp) and presents a physical progress of 55 percent along 4 kilometers. It is located within the airport polygon in such a way that it will connect the four terminals with the Maya Train Station.
Chac Mool Avenue, with an investment of 286 million pesos and a goal of 4.5 kilometers, presents a physical progress of 43 percent. This road will allow Huayacán Avenue and Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard to be connected more quickly, safely and efficiently.
In its two bodies, it has an advance of 3.7 km on dirt roads, 3.1 on the hydraulic base and 3.8 on the asphalt surface.
The Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, with an investment of 7,056 billion pesos and a goal of 8.8 kilometers with two interchanges, has a physical progress of 31 percent.
Currently in the lagoon area, work is being done on the steel coating on columns, 195 piles, 58 columns and 58 capitals (13 supports) and two supports with heads have been cast.
In the terrestrial zone, the assembly of the sectioned head is in process. There are 30 spans with girders mounted and 27 spans finished at slab level.
Environmental measures are implemented in compliance with the adaptive management system in the construction of the Nichupté Bridge, which contemplates an investment of 492 million pesos, with a global physical progress of 18percent. These actions allow the construction of the bridge to continue without a considerable ecological impact on the area.
The set of these roads will allow people to travel in less time, in a more comfortable and effective way, from the Cancun International Airport to the hotel zone and city center, which translates into lower logistical costs that contribute to detonating the local economy and tourism development of this important region of the country.
