Cancun, Q.R. — A 9-1-1 report of a gun threat in the Cancun Hotel Zone has turned out to be false. On Saturday, police received a report of armed men in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

The report was allegedly made by a man after a verbal altercation with another man. The two men reportedly began arguing when one is alleged to have threatened the other with a gun before leaving.
In response to the 9-1-1 emergency call, a search operation was deployed to locate the armed man described by the caller, however, the report turned out to be false. The incident happened at kilometer 4 of Kukulcán Boulevard Saturday afternoon.
Officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit along with federal forces responded to the emergency report. Two checkpoints were set up in the hotel zone. One at 2.5 and the other at kilometer 4 of Kukulcán Boulevard.
Police say the report was false. In a statement, the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) reported “No incidents in the hotel zone. The Secretariat of Citizen Security reports that, after receiving a report about the alleged presence of armed individuals in the Hotel Zone of the municipality of Benito Juárez, the corresponding security protocols were activated.

“After an exhaustive operation, authorities confirmed that no risk to the population was identified and that the report turned out to be false. We invite citizens to stay informed through official State Government channels and to avoid the dissemination of unverified information.”
