One killed, two seriously burned in Cancun house blast

Cancun, Q.R. — An afternoon explosion in the bottom level of a Cancun house has left one dead and two seriously injured. On Thursday, residents of the Cumbres residential complex called emergency services after their neighborhood was left in a large plume of thick smoke.

People rushed to the site of the blast Thursday afternoon.

At least one person was seen running from the bottom level of the home after the massive blast.

The explosion happened around 4:30 p.m. in the street-level area of the house where three men from a private company were working. The men were hired from a specialty company out of Cancun to maintain an installed golf simulator.

The explosion came from the bottom of the three story house.

The explosion happened during maintenance on Sierra Teyra Street. The blast left one man in his late-20s dead. Two others, both reported to be employees of the specialized company that installs sports simulators, were rushed to Cancun hospital with third degree burns.

An exact cause for the explosion is still being investigated, however, Cancun firemen have said the men were using flammable products at the time of the explosion.

The bottom level of the home was left heavily damaged from the afternoon blast.

Personnel from the Fire Department, Civil Protection and Municipal Police cordoned off the area while forensics removed the body and authorities began to investigate.
