Mahahual, Q.R. — The Navy has begun at-sea sargassum collection off the coast of Mahahual. The group of seamen worked Monday to collect the arriving seaweed before it made landfall.

Approximately 1.5 tons of sargassum was collected by Navy members from the Eleventh Naval Zone. The collected sargassum was hauled ashore near a pier and trucked away.
The Navy via the Eleventh Naval Zone within the framework of the Strategy for addressing Sargassum on the Mexican Caribbean coast, reports that Monday, actions were initiated to mitigate the effects of the sargassum in Mahahual.
In this context, actions were initiated in coordination with hoteliers, restaurateurs and service providers in the vicinity of the fishing pier and beaches of Mahahual, having recovered approximately 1.5 tons of sargassum and inorganic waste.
It should be noted that this is a joint effort derived from the agreements established in work meetings with the participation of the Navy, state government, private initiative and civil society of Quintana Roo.

With these actions, the Mexican Navy reaffirms its commitment to implement actions that contribute to reducing the arrival of sargassum on the beaches of the Mexican Caribbean, providing the necessary resources in coordination with the agencies of the three levels of government and civil society, they said in a statement.
