Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Princess Cruises has confirmed the death of one of its crew members who fell overboard Monday. The ship was passing the Yucatan Peninsula when the male crew member went overboard off the coast of Cancun.
The Monday morning incident happened on a Regal Princess ship that had set sail from Florida two days before. The unnamed crew member reportedly went overboard around 6:00 a.m. Monday as the ship passed the Cancun-Isla Mujeres region.

In the first official statement from Princess Cruises they said “Our thoughts are with the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by this situation. We are providing support to our onboard team and remain focused on the ongoing search efforts.”
Maritime authorities began a search for the overboard man but were unsuccessful in locating him. The ship’s captain confirmed his death at 1:30 p.m. that same day after an active search and rescue operation.
The company released a second official statement saying “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time. Grief support services are being offered to guests and crew members affected by this event.”
Princess Cruises publicly thanked local maritime authorities and the crew of the Carnival Jubilee for their assistance in the search.
Princess Cruises did not provide any information as to how the crew member may have gone overboard.
