Tulum, Q.R. — At least six palapas have been reported devoured by an early morning fire in the Tulum Hotel Zone. The structures were part of a hotel on Tak Be Ha Street that burned before firemen arrived.

According to available information, the fire was reported to authorities at 3:20 a.m. Thursday morning after failed attempts by on-site staff to put it out.
Employees of the hotel tried to put out the fire themselves using extinguishers, however, they were not successful.
Emergency responders from Civil Protection arrived to assist Tulum firemen in fighting the large early morning blaze. Several LP gas tanks were moved from the building to a safer location while firemen worked.
Emergency services remained at the scene for more than four hours to ensure no flareups. At least six palapas were reported destroyed in the fire. There were no reports of injuries.

Tulum authorities have not commented on the fire or a possible cause.
