Cancun swimmers find floating body of man believed reported missing the night before

Cancun, Q.R. — The body of a swimmer reported missing the night before has been recovered from an area off Cancun’s Playa del Niño. The body of the man was found floating next to a section of sargassum barrier Sunday afternoon.

The man was found by other swimmers near a sargassum barrier Sunday afternoon August 2, 2026.

The body of the unidentified male was seen by other swimmers Sunday in water off Playa del Niño. According to initial reports, the man is believed to have drowned several hours earlier.

Other swimmers in the area saw the man floating face down on the sea-side of a sargassum barrier. Municipal Police and Civil Protection personnel responded to the report.

The area was cordoned off while Civil Protection personnel recovered the body and returned him to shore. The deceased male has not been named.

Preliminary reports suggest the man is likely the same person who was reported missing Saturday night after failing to return from a swim on a different Cancun beach.

Civil Protection personnel retrieved the man’s body August 2, 2026.

On Saturday night, family members reported the disappearance of a 30 year old man who went swimming and failed to return. Details surrounding that report are unknown.
