Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun authorities continue their search for the passenger of a ride share vehicle that was car jacked Thursday. Police are continuing their search after the car was found abandoned in front of an elementary school Friday afternoon.
Area residents reported the suspicious car to police who later identified it as a vehicle reported stolen the night before. The car, reported to be an Uber ride share car, was intercepted and taken over by gunmen on 127th Avenue in SM 326 Thursday night.
The driver was freed before the armed men made off with it.
According to the Uber driver, he was intercepted by armed men traveling in two vehicles. The assailants blocked his path and forced him out of the vehicle.
His passenger tried to escape on foot but was captured and forced back into the vehicle before the armed men drove off with the car.
On Friday afternoon, State Police officers located the white Chevrolet Onix car on Francisco I. Madero Avenue that had been stolen Thursday night in Cancun.
Municipal police officers cordoned off the area while state officials inspected the car, including the trunk, in search of the missing passenger. No bodies were reported found inside the vehicle.
The car was towed from the avenue Friday afternoon and impounded by the State Attorney General (FGE) as part of its investigation. Police continue their search for the passenger.
