Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: Police are hunting for two men captured on city cameras shooting at a car that left a woman and her minor son dead. On Wednesday night, Cancun C5 surveillance captured two men on a motorcycle targeting a white car.
The car was allegedly chased through city streets in a targeted attack that left the driver and front seat passenger dead. The female driver of the car was shot and killed as she neared a city intersection.
The front seat passenger, her 10 year old son, was also shot and killed. An adult woman with her minor child were riding in the back seat. They were not harmed during the shooting. The deadly attack is reported to have been over the fraudulent sale of property.
Cancun police arrived at the scene of the shooting at the intersection of Chac Mool and 20 de Noviembre Avenues Christmas night. Red Cross paramedics confirmed the woman driver and her young son had died at the scene.
According to early information, the car was pursued from region 259. The driver of the motorcycle caught up with the car as it neared the intersection. City surveillance has captured images of the two men believed responsible.
At the time of press, Cancun police have not released any information regarding the shooting, nor have they made any statement.
UPDATE: On Thursday afternoon, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) of Quintana Roo released a brief statement regarding the murder of a woman and her son. In a statement “the State Attorney General (FGE) of Quintana Roo reported the start of an investigation for the crime of qualified homicide against a woman and a minor, which occurred in Cancun.
“The line of investigation that this Social Representation follows indicates that this event is related to crimes of fraud for the sale of properties in irregular colonies in this municipality.
“The Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with authorities from the municipal, state and federal government, is carrying out the corresponding investigations to find the person or persons responsible for these events.”
