More than 100 high tech police vehicles delivered in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — More than 100 new high tech police units outfitted with state-of-the-art technology were delivered in Cancun Tuesday. The new 127 units are part of a total of 239 to be delivered to city police.

The new patrols were delivered on the Tajamar Boardwalk by Governor Mara Lezama and Cancun Mayor, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña. The high tech vehicles will be used by officers of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit.

The new units consist of various models of cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and two ambulances. All are well equipped with cutting-edge technology to raise police efficiency. They are equipped with GPS monitored 24 hours a day from the C2 and C5 with video surveillance from four external cameras and one internal camera, with secure and reliable digital radio communication, Governor Lezama said.

“Today we take a firm step toward building peace and tranquility in Cancun and Quintana Roo because with results, we demonstrate that the security of our people is not an empty promise but a reality that is built with work, determination and justice,” she said Tuesday.

She pointed out that part of the New Agreement for Security is to provide the institutions with the necessary tools “and these patrols are proof of that. In my government we do not give an alternative to crime. We are going for more. The road is not easy, but we are on the right path,” she added.

Mayor Ana Paty Peralta stressed that with this delivery of vehicles, a firm and decisive step is being taken in the commitment to building peace, “because we know that the tranquility of families is not a privilege, it is a right,” she said.

The Mayor pointed out that as part of the comprehensive security strategy, the new equipment is added to the 800 neighborhood video surveillance cameras, 135 Intelligent Monitoring Points and 24 security totems installed in sports facilities.

She said that vest cameras will soon be provided to officers to make their actions transparent and guarantee the confidence of the citizens in each police performance.

According to FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana) head Raciel López Salazar, “at the event, 127 units were delivered out of a total of 239 equipped with advanced technological equipment that will assist in the coordinated work to restore peace and security in the municipality.”

Authorities did not say when the remainder of the vehicles are expected.
