Cozumel, Q.R. — The Command and Control Center (C2) along with 33 new intelligent monitoring points have become operational in Cozumel. The island cameras and new C2 Centre will improve the coordination of operations in emergency situations, natural disasters and massive public events.
Island surveillance has been increased from 10 to 63 intelligent monitoring points (PMI): 10 existing, 33 new by the state and 20 new by the municipality.
The entire island now has a total of 262 surveillance cameras that are outfitted with facial recognition, video analytics and license plate reading (LPR) abilities.
Cozumel Secretary of Citizen Security head Julio César Gómez Torres along with Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo and Governor Mara Lezama were at the inaugural ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.
In a statement, island authorities said the use of modernized technology will increase security management, which are key strategies for reducing crimes and improving the perception of security on the island.
Lezama stressed that in world-class tourist destinations such as Cozumel, security environments are essential. “This is why we are working every day, in unity, as a team, all together, in this effort to build peace and combat crime.”
She warned that many years have been dedicated to building the tourist destinations of Quintana Roo by efforts of those who love and care for the state, and those who spread false and violent videos have no idea of the damage they do to the state’s tourist destinations.
However, Lezama pointed out that the state continues working with more equipment, new technology and greater effort to build that peace that all Cozumel and Quintana Roo residents want.
In a note, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) said “we are committed to reinforcing security strategies in Cozumel, to take care of our people and tourists!
“The Command and Control Center (C2) and 33 new Intelligent Monitoring Points came into operation with which the coordination of operations and decision-making in emergency situations, natural disasters and massive public events will be improved.
“The objective is reinforcing security in the destination as well as promoting and strengthening the image of tourism leadership on the island. In this way, we work in coordination with the three levels of government and with civil society in actions to build peace and security throughout Quintana Roo.”
The C4 of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and C2 of Cozumel will share their cameras that are linked by the CAD system. The cameras have been distributed throughout 17 colonies on the island.
