Cancun, Q.R. — State authorities are in search of taxi drivers videoed assaulting a Cancun citizen on a public road. On Monday afternoon, inspectors from the Mobility Institute of the State of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) began their search in filters on city streets.
According to the Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo, (Imoveqroo), inspectors are looking for the taxi drivers involved in the physical assault that took place Sunday night.
An administrative procedure for the cancellation of concessions and location of the aggressors of a citizen on public roads Sunday night, for the revocation of their licenses and facts that were disclosed through social networks, they said Monday.
Imoveqroo will request information from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), Municipal Police (PM) and civic judges to proceed in accordance with the law in the event of a complaint from the affected party, they added.
“In light of this unfortunate event, there will be zero tolerance for acts of violence and we will apply all sanctions that the law allows us to eradicate this behavior in public and private transportation,” said Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, the Director of the Institute.
He says various unions were also asked for specific information on the drivers involved. The revocation of the concessions of the taxis involved and the public transport licenses of the drivers located will proceed based on articles 122 section XV, 198 section III, subsection C, articles 199, 200, 201 and 202 of the Mobility Law of the State of Quintana Roo, they said.
On Monday, a video began circulating from Sunday night showing a group of at least six Cancun taxi drivers standing around a man laying on the ground. It is not known how many are accused of assaulting him. Authorities have not said what triggered the attack or how many drivers were officially involved.
