Cancun, Q.R. — A group of five armed men were arrested from a Cancun taxi Monday after dumping an assault victim. Municipal Police patrolling José López Portillo Avenue saw a taxi stop then quickly leave the scene.
Moments later, they saw a man walking out of a field from where he requested help. The unnamed man told police he had been assaulted by a group of men from inside the taxi.
Police were able to catch up with the taxi and, during an inspection, locate at least one loaded weapon. The five out-of-state men were removed from the taxi and taken into custody.
In a statement, the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security reported the arrest of five individuals on charges of injuries and the illegal carrying of a firearm.
Arrested was Eliodoro “N”, 24 from Chiapas, Yeison “N”, 23 from Chiapas, Antonio “N”, 37 from Veracruz, Henry “N”, 30 from Campeche and Maynor “N”, 37 and also from Chiapas.
“The incident took place during a routine patrol on José López Portillo Avenue towards the exit to Mérida. The agents observed a taxi stopped on the avenue, which quickly left the scene.
“Shortly after they saw a man leaving a green area with physical signs of aggression who requested help when he noticed police, reporting having been beaten by the occupants of the taxi.
“After speaking with the victim, agents pursued the vehicle involved, a Spark taxi with taxi number 0257 and plates B-008-TMK from Quintana Roo.
“The men were arrested after a firearm loaded with seven useful cartridges was found during an inspection of the vehicle, thus corroborating the accusations of the affected person.”
