Driver loses Cancun public passenger unit for filling up while running

Cancun, Q.R. — A pubic transport driver in Cancun had had his unit seized for filling up at a gas station with it running. Passengers on board the public combi videoed the driver dismissing passenger concerns about leaving the vehicle running while the attendant filled it was gas.

The driver is heard telling passengers if they don’t like it, they can get off. The incident happened on the evening of October 31.

The passenger who videoed the gas station fill-up posted the video to the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) social media. That complaint lead to the locating of the unit by state officials, which was removed from the driver. He was also fined 16,000 pesos.

In a statement, Imoveqroo (Instituto de Movilidad de Quintana Roo) said “in light of the events published on social media regarding an event in which the driver of the minibus with registration number 889 entered a gas station to fill up with fuel while passengers were on board, the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute, Imoveqroo, conducted an operation to locate him and initiated an administrative procedure.

The combi passenger videoed the vehicle being filled with gas while still running.

“The driver was informed that, following a citizen complaint made through the Institute’s social networks, a video shows unit 889 carrying out said activity, which is not permitted.

“During the inspection, it was reported that based on article 198 section 3, item C of the Mobility Law of the State of Quintana Roo, the action carried out by the driver merits an infraction by putting the safety of users at risk, therefore, the driver must pay a fine of 16,000 pesos for the release of the unit.”

Imoveqroo Director, Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, reported that the unit was sent to the impound and the administrative procedure was initiated.

Imoveqroo inspectors filtered the combi in traffic from where it was towed from city streets Sunday.

“I have reiterated that we will not tolerate any activity that puts the safety of users at risk. I ask the population to help us report these drivers who are not clear that good service to users is paramount,” he said.

Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia says public transport passengers can make complaints through the office, social networks and through the WhatsApp number 983-185-3403.
