Cancun, Q.R. — Dozens of motorcycles were seized over a two day inspection by city Transit this week. Cancun Transit set up three inspection points around the city of Cancun to stop and verify motorcycle paperwork.
Out of 165 motorcycles stopped, 41 were found to be without the necessary documents to legally travel city streets. Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, the General Secretary of Cancun City Council, says the inspections by City Transit will continue.
Two days this week, Transit set up inspection points, one of which was on Huayacán Avenue. There, 60 motorcycles were inspected of which 13 were seized due to incomplete documentation.
At another inspeciton point on Nichupté Avenue (near the Battalion), police pulled over 55 motorcycles, 17 of which were towed for lack of documentation. On 20 de Noviembre Avenue with Kabah, inspectors stopped 50 motorcycles and towed 11 for the same reason.
According to Gutiérrez Fernández, the inspection operations are supported by Article 53, Section IX of the Internal Regulations of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Benito Juárez, as well as Article 131 of the Municipal Traffic Regulations.
Penalties for non-compliance include securing and transferring the vehicle to the impound lot in accordance with Article 7, Section II.
Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández stressed that these operations are carried out to protect motorcyclists as well as pedestrians and other drivers.
