Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun is in its first week of testing a new hybrid bus system. The new bus, which is the city’s latest pilot project, has been running residents from the city center to the Cancun Hotel Zone.

According to Autocar, the company managing the bus, the Chinese-made 2025 model cost 4 million pesos and is being tested along Kabah Avenue and the hotel zone. The company says they are testing the profitability of the bus to determine if they can afford to purchase the necessary number of units.
Autocar has a signed agreement with the bus company for 15 days use of its Autodemo bus. The bus is currntly being driven as a demonstration and performance testing vehicle from March 5 to 20.
The city, who paid for the two week test drive, will continue to use it until next week. Until then, tests are being conducted by Autocar, one of the public transportation concessionaires in Cancun.

The hybrid bus is 80 percent electric and 20 percent diesel and can carry 70 passengers. The 18-meter long bus is complete with disabled spaces, a wheelchair ramp, Braille signage, air conditioning, USB chargers, a bike rack and security cameras, among other features.
