Cancun, Q.R. — National Guard personnel seized a package containing 37 kilos of marijuana. The pot bust was made with the assistance of a canine who detected the narcotics in two cardboard boxes.
Two large boxes sent from Guadalajara, Jalisco were found inside a courier company’s area at the Cancun airport bound for an address in Playa del Carmen. National Guard says an investigation into the drug shipment has been started.
“As part of strategic actions to prevent the trafficking and distribution of narcotics, foreign currency and firearms, national guardsmen, with prior authorization and with the support of a canine team, entered a courier company located at the Cancun International Airport,” National Guard reported.
“When carrying out inspections in the cargo area, the canine specimen became interested in two cardboard boxes, which indicated the possible presence of some illicit object or substance.
“The National Guard carried out a thorough inspection of the inside of the boxes, in which they found a total of 37 kilos of green, dried grass with the characteristics of marijuana.

“The packages, originating in the state of Jalisco and destined for Playa del Carmen were seized and made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to continue the corresponding investigations.
“The National Guard reaffirms its commitment to the citizens to eradicate in the country the transfer and distribution of all types of substances that affect the health of the population.”
