Cancun, Q.R. — During a two day motorcycle inspection operation around Cancun, a total of 89 were found to be on city roads illegally. The inspections were carried out November 6 to 8 in five different operations around Cancun.
Ezequiel Segovia Góngora, the Director of Municipal Transit, reported 290 motorcycles were stopped during the “Road Safety for Motorcyclists” operation. He said the inspections were carried out randomly, with 89 motorcycles being sent to the vehicle depot due to non-compliance with some of their traffic documents.
During the two day operation,16 drivers were fined for driving on sidewalks and one person was arrested.
He reported during the operations, participating officers had cameras on their lapels which documented all inspections, while collaborators from the Municipal Comptroller’s Office were permanently present to prevent acts of corruption.
“Riding a motorcycle requires not only driving skills, but also the responsibility to comply with the necessary safety measures to protect both the driver and others on public roads,” said the Director of Traffic.
It is vital to use appropriate protective equipment such as certified helmets, gloves and clothing with reflective elements, which can make a difference in the event of an accident.
Likewise, carrying official documentation such as a driver’s license, registration card and civil liability insurance is not only a legal requirement, but also facilitates assistance and procedures in the event of accidents or inspections, contributing to safer and more regulated traffic on the streets, he said.
