Cancun judge sentences woman to more than four years for luring girls on Facebook

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has sentenced a woman to more than four years in prison for human trafficking in the form of prostitution. Ligia Johana “N” was sentenced Saturday to four years and nine months for luring girls online through Facebook.

“Through the abbreviated procedure, the State Attorney General (FGE) obtained a conviction of four years and nine months in prison for a woman for the crime of human trafficking in the form of prostitution of others,” the FGE (Fiscalía General Del Estado) reported.

“The sentence of Ligia Johana “N”, alias “La Hondureña”, derives from cyber patrolling by elements of the Investigative Police assigned to the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Crimes of Trafficking and Exploitation during which they detected a profile on the social network Facebook from which various publications were made aimed at young women offering to earn up to 5,000 pesos per week,” the agency explained.

“These types of publications are usually misleading because they offer large amounts of money without specifying the work to be done. Suspecting illegal acts, an undercover agent contacted the telephone number indicated in the advertisement to apply for employment.

“In the conversation via WhatsApp, they told her that it was an escort job in a brothel where she would offer sexual services to clients, assuring her that they also recruited minors.

“The appointment for the final interview was scheduled for April 11, 2023, at an address on Ignacio López Rayón Street in SM 223 of Cancun where Ligia Johana “N” was detained and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.

“A judge handed down a sentence of four years and nine months in addition, that the convicted person must pay a fine of 93,366 pesos,” the FGE report detailed.
