Cancun, Q.R. — A man who tried to extort a Cancun hotel under construction has been arrested in Mexico City. Pablo Andrei “N” was arrested in relation to 290 million pesos in company losses as well as a thousand jobs.
“Pablo Andrei “N” is accused of promoting, without legal status, an Amparo under the argument of environmental impact caused by the construction of a hotel, which was denied,” the State Attorney General (FGE) said in a statement.
“However, he requested the review and was granted the definitive suspension of the project causing an approximate loss of 290 million pesos, in addition to a thousand jobs.
“On March 15, 2024, the now detained man demanded from the Director of the hotel project the amount of 45 million pesos to withdraw the protection. Later, on June 4 of this year, Pablo Andrei “N” reduced the amount to 20 million pesos.
“The last demand was on June 26 of this year, when the suspect asked for $500,000 USD at the exchange rate of 20 pesos. On this occasion, he threatened the victim with a firearm,” the FGE (Fiscalía General del Estado) reported.
During the ongoing investigation, Pablo Andrei “N” was located and taken into custody in Mexico City on an outstanding arrest warrant “for his probable participation in the crime of extortion”. He has since been returned to Cancun and entered into the Social Reintegration Center (prison).
