Cancun driver killed in collision with three-ton cargo truck

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver was killed Monday morning west of the city. The driver died after colliding with a three-ton cargo truck. The accident happened on a section of Cancun to Merida highway around 6:30 a.m.

Cancun firemen used the jaws of life to free the trapped driver.

Emergency services from Cancun were sent to the scene after reports reached the city’s C5 Centre. Police along with Civil Protection, National Guard and six city firemen, responded to reports of the two vehicle accident.

At the scene they found a totaled taxi and badly damaged cargo truck. Both vehicle were off the road. The taxi was located smashed into a concrete wall with its trapped driver behind the wheel.

Police are continuing their investigation into the deadly accident.

Firemen used the jaws of life to remove him. Paramedics confirmed he died at the scene. The Cancun taxi driver has not been named pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, Marco Antonio “C”, was not seriously injured.

The driver of the Cancun taxi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Forensics from the Attorney General’s Office arrived to remove the body of the deceased taxi driver. Authorities are investigating an official cause for the early morning accident.
