Cancun, Q.R. — A man found guilty of the 2024 shooting death of a Cancun woman has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. The State Attorney General’s (FGE) Office said that Abel “N” will remain behind bars for 16 years, eight months and 20 days for killing his former girlfriend.

“The events for which he was convicted occurred on May 26, 2024, in the family home when Abel “N” was having an argument out of jealousy with the victim, who was his partner.
“After leaving the property and returning, the suspect shot her directly with a firearm, taking her life,” they said in a statement.
“It is important to note that witnesses reported that the now convicted man, under the influence of alcohol and motivated by jealousy, had pointed the firearm at the victim on several occasions,” they added.
In a ruling hearing, the judge indicated that once all the evidence had been analyzed, he reached the legal certainty that proved the crime of femicide, as well as the full participation and guilt of Abel “N”.
According to the FGE statement, “the defendant admitted his responsibility in the crime which is why he received a lesser sentence.”
