Cancun, Q.R. — The report of a bomb threat at the Jesús Kumate Hospital in Cancun has been said to be a prank. Late Sunday afternoon, Cancun officials were alerted to an explosive device at the hospital which lead to an evacuation.
Police, dogs, military personnel and Civil Protection were part of the team that arrived in response to the 5:00 p.m. report. After a thorough search, the threat was reported to be a prank.
In an official statement late Sunday, the Government of Quintana Roo posted “Following a call alerting about an alleged explosive device at the Jesús Kumate Hospital in Cancun, action and evacuation protocols were activated.
“Elements of the Sedena, National Guard, SSC, Firefighters and Civil Protection performed an evacuation in coordination with authorities of the municipality of Benito Juárez.
“An evacuation was carried out as well as the inspection protocol in all areas, reporting everything in order and indicating that it was a “prank” call. Citizens are urged to stay informed through official sources and to make responsible use of emergency lines.”
In August, police in Chetumal determined an early afternoon bomb threat inside a shopping plaza to be a false alarm after someone also placed a prank 9-1-1 call.
