Authorities investigating the abandonment of eight dogs inside Cancun house

Cancun, Q.R. — An investigation has begun into the abandonment of eight dogs inside a dilapidated Cancun house. The dogs were removed from the Yaxchilán Avenue property Saturday by municipal authorities.

The State Attorney General’s Office announces the initiation of an investigation, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against the Environment and Wildlife, against whoever is responsible for the animal cruelty of eight dogs.

“Personnel from the Quintana Roo Federal Emergency Management Agency (FGE), in coordination with the Municipal Ecology Directorate and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente), carried out an operation in which they rescued eight abandoned dogs from a property located on Yaxchilán Avenue.

“This rescue addresses various citizen demands that expressed the unsanitary conditions and lack of food and water in which the dogs were living. After being removed from the facility, the eight dogs were referred for veterinary care, to assess their health and, if necessary, provide appropriate treatment,” Cancun authorities said in a statement.
