Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — With the purpose of continuing to consolidate Puerto Morelos as a destination for gastronomic tourism, the Secretary of Tourism is working hand-in-hand with culinary professionals.
Miguel Cámara Ruiz, the Municipal Secretary of Sustainable Tourism, says the idea is to promote events that allow permanent growth and occupation number in visitors.
He says everything is ready to carry out the “First Caribbean Grill Festival 2023” on July 29 in the Maravilla cenote on the Ruta de los Cenotes. He says the food event has been organized with the National Chamber of Industry of Restaurants and Seasoned Foods (Canirac) of Puerto Morelos, which will bring together 14 renowned chefs from the north of Quintana Roo.
“We are creating links with our productive sector to also connect our students from the tourism industry and to get them involved in the labor dynamics. Therefore, part of the resources obtained from the festival will be to support students from Cecyte Leona Vicario, an institution that recently signed an agreement with Canirac Puerto Morelos,” he explained.
Municipal Canirac President Armando Alvarado, pointed out that the cenote venue can accommodate 250 people. For the festival, 14 tents will be set up where people can sample dishes of fish, octopus, chicken, ostrich, beef cuts, pork and tilapia from the municipality, as well as vegetables from León producers.
“We will be 14 chefs accompanied by 25 Cecyte practitioners whom we want to include in everything that involves putting together these events in addition to promoting the destination which has great regional and international cuisine,” he said.
Alvarado said that families will be able to enjoy the activities offered by Cenote Maravilla from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. There will be an area for children, live music and a space for artisans from Puerto Morelos and Leona Vicario.
