Cozumel tour boat sinks off southwest coast carrying six

Cozumel, Q.R. — Six passengers were pulled from the water off Cozumel Monday when their boat sank. The tour vessel was videoed on its side a few hundred meters from shore.

The incident was recorded off the southwest part of the island in front of a beach club Monday afternoon.

Other vessels came to the rescue Monday February 16, 2026.

The Cozumel-based tourist tour boat sank when its crew forced a sudden quick maneuver, trying to change direction, witnesses said.

Passengers said the accident happened when the boat made a sudden turn, lost stability and began to list until it partially sank.

All six passengers were rescued from the sea by other vessels who rushed to the scene upon seeing the sunken boat.

According to local reports, there are accusations that the crew manning the tour boat were in an “unfit state” being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Local authorities have not confirmed those allegations.

One crew member is seen clinging to his boat during the partial sinking February 16, 2026.

The tourists onboard were taken ashore for preventative medical evaluation, without reports of any significant injuries.
